Creating a Layer Link

Back to TOC

1. Put the VisiLaunch Tool in Program mode by selecting the "Prog" button.

2. Drag out a rectangle on the main picture (or click on an area where a link already exists to highlight the area).

3. Choose the Layer Link Type in the VisiLaunch Tool window:

4. Click the "Set" button.

5. Complete the New Layer Dialog box.

Creating a New Layer:

Click on the Create New Layer radio button.

Click on the "Get Picture" button to open a picture for this new layer. The Name of the layer will automatically be filled in with the picture file name. Change as desired.

Choose the "Home" and "Back" areas for this layer. Clicking the "Home" area while running your workspace will take your workspace all the way back to the first layer. Clicking the "Back" area while running will take your workspace back one layer (to the layer previous to this one). Please see the page "Home and Back Areas" for more information on this topic.

If you want your layer password protected, enter a password. This password is encrypted in the VisiLaunch database (your saved workspace).

Linking to an Existing Layer:

Click on the "Use Existing Layer" radio button. Choose an existing Layer from the popup menu.

For both New Layers and Existing Layers:

If you want to go new layer immediately (while in programming mode), check the "Goto Layer Now" checkbox.

If this is a single Layer link, and you want the Layer to appear in a popup menu when running your workspace, check the "Display in Popup" checkbox. Otherwise, a single Layer link does NOT initiate a popup menu (although the cursor still changes to the pointing hand cursor when you move your mouse over any link area). Multiple layers linked to the same region of a picture must, by default, initiate a popup menu so that you can choose the desired layer.

Click the "OK" button. That's it. The link is set.

You can readily set multiple links for the same link rectangle. Just click the "Set" button again, and once again select the new item from the Open File dialog box. When you run your workspace, all the links will be presented in a simple popup menu when you click your mouse in the link area.

You can mix different link types in the same link rectangle (hence you can have applications, documents, and folders, web pages, etc. linked over the same picture area, if you wish).

Hint: If you later want to add a link to some pre-existing link rectangle, just click the mouse over the desired picture area while the VisiLaunch Tool is in Program mode. The link rectangle will automatically highlight and you can then proceed to add the link.

Hint: You do NOT always have to return the VisiLaunch Tool to Program mode in order to add a new link to a pre-existing link area. While the VisiLaunch Tool is in Program mode, move the mouse over a pre-existing link area in the picture, and click the mouse down. You should see a popup menu appear with one or more items. Now hold down the "Control" key on your keyboard and select one of the items in the popup menu. Depending on the type of link you selected from the Popup menu, you will be presented with the appropriate dialog box(es). Complete the dialog box(es) and your new link will be set.
